新竹市14歲以下人口高達18％，且出生率連續12年全國最高，市長林智堅積極打造幸福兒童城市，力推食育及閱讀教育，希望小朋友都能不偏食、愛閱讀，近日評選出全市15所食育、7所閱讀優良幼兒園，希望小朋友們自小就能珍惜食物、吃的安心與快樂閱讀、喜愛書本。



林智堅表示，上任後他積極打造「幸福兒童城市」，期盼藉由示範幼兒園的優秀表現，打造孩子們的「知識遊樂地」，帶動幼兒食育及對閱讀的重視，讓孩子快樂閱讀、健康飲食。

此次被評選為食育優良幼兒園之1的大庄國小幼兒園，近年建置「食農、探索、生態」3合1園區，透過洗米、尋找社區稻田及賣米商店、陪農夫下田、聊天等，讓孩子感受動手做的樂趣。

利用暑假空檔回來幫忙為花台上的稻米澆水的孩童，透過「小小農夫」體驗，小朋友們才驚呼，「原來種田這麼辛苦啊！希望開學後能吃到自己種的米！」

閱讀優良幼兒園之一的陽光非營利幼兒園，則以「水水書店」故事員，透過推動閱讀教育的活動，藉由角色扮演，讓孩子更深入閱讀，了解書本傳達的意涵。
